After the North American tour wraps, Armstrong says Green
Day may play stadium gigs in Australia and/or South America.
"I'd love to play Russia and Cuba -- places rock shows don't
normally go," he says. "After that, we'll end up sitting
around and chatting about what is going to be the next
album."
But Armstrong has a head start as far as that's concerned,
admitting he has "about 15 new songs" in the hopper already.
"Right now, it's that no-pressure/fun stage of just getting
on a four-track and coming up with some goofy stuff," he
says. "Eventually, something sort of unfolds. It's exciting.

MIAMI (Reuters) - U.S. punk-pop band Green Day captured
eight nominations for "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" and
"American Idiot" on Monday to lead nominees for the MTV Video
Music Awards.
The 22nd annual MTV awards will be broadcast from Miami on
Aug. 28. Rapper Kanye West, American Idol winner Kelly
Clarkson as well as Green Day are among the scheduled
performers, MTV said in a news release.
The Video of the Year nominees are: Coldplay for "Speed of
Sound," Kanye West for "Jesus Walks," Green Day for "Boulevard
of Broken Dreams," Snoop Dogg featuring Pharrell for "Drop It
Like It's Hot" and Gwen Stefani for "Hollaback Girl."
Green Day Get 8 MTV VMA Nominations!
Green Day has been nominated for 8 MTV VMA awards: the
Viewer's Choice Award (American Idiot), Video of the Year
(Boulevard of Broken Dreams), Best Group Video (Boulevard),
Best Rock Video (Boulevard), Best Direction in a Video
(Boulevard), Best Art Direction in a Video (Boulevard), Best

coming out soon. Along with the normal CD album, it will

Who knew that Green Day was too hot for the Marriott
Marquis?
The Independent Film Channel had booked an outdoor wall of
the Times Square hotel to advertise IFC's year-long
association with the popular punk band on a 28-by- 43-foot
billboard.
But Marriott execs immediately balked when they saw the
billboard's cartoon image: a heart-shaped grenade gripped by a
bloodied hand.
"We have the right to review all advertising that goes on
our buildings," a Marriott spokeswoman told me, "and if we
feel it has any political, pornographic or inappropriate
content, we have the right to reject that ad."
I'm no hotel honcho, so maybe that's why I can't figure out

Green Day front man Billie Joe Armstrong
was equally baffled.
When he heard about the ban Friday, "I thought it was an
April Fool's prank," he said.
But IFC exec Evan Shapiro smells a rat.
"We were told that the billboard was distasteful, and
that's ridiculous," Shapiro told me. "I also heard that
somebody at Marriott said they hate everything that Green Day
stands for. ... The chairman of the company [J.W.
Marriott Jr.] is pretty outspoken about his politics
and he's a very strong supporter of a certain party. I would
imagine that Mr. Marriott is not a fan of Green Day's song
'American Idiot.' ... But if anybody tries to take our freedom
of speech away, they'll take it from my cold, dead hand!"
The hotel spokeswoman said Chairman Marriott had nothing to
do with banning the billboard - which, in any case, will go up
tomorrow a few blocks away at the W Hotel.
